I had the pleasure to visit Antwerp for the first time in October and would like to share some of the highlights with you!
It was a super short visit, only 36 hours but I had the best time! Antwerp was not in the top of my travel list, but then James Veitch was on tour, and we had to go see him live!
We arrived in the beautiful Antwerp’s central station just a bit past noon. We headed to our hotel in the diamond district and walked to the city center for lunch. The night before, we found a place that served hotdogs and lobster. I was so excited to try it, but then, after 45 minutes of walking (we were a bit lost, I confess), we found the place. Closed. A local girl told me they closed since a few months. I was very hangry at the moment, and could only think about why was there no note in any of their websites/social media. I was heartbroken and my feet were hurting.
We then looked around a bit longer for a second option and we found a fish and fries restaurant in a small but crowded street. I love fish and fries and the place was super lovely. We went for dessert at the cutest bakery Popoff and their brand identity stunned me. Took my time sketching their shop front, and then had the most amazing strawberry meringue pie ever. Worth every bite.
We tried walking off some of the calories around the city center, but we had very little time. We just headed back to the hotel, and went to the venue after getting ready. The show was at Lebowskis, a beautiful comedy club and we had so much fun with James!
Next day, we went for breakfast at Butcher’s coffee, and again: brand identity love! The place was so nice, really good local vibe. We sat in the sun, people watched while having banana pancakes and avocado toast with poached egg. After this break, we walked back to the center (another 40 min) and took our time stopping by small independent, second hand and antique shops along the way. So much inspiration! I tried to convince my boyfriend of extending our stay, but we had made other plans for the week already.
There was a little boutique called The Recollection and I was totally smitten with their products. Only the most beautiful objects and the most delicious candles, all surrounded by plants and antique furniture.
We went back to the center, when we took some Polaroid photos. Around this time, a sweet follower wrote to me and invited me to go meet her and get some of her specialty chocolates at Chofleur. She is also an artist and we had a lovely chat about art, creative business, social media and chocolates.
It was an amazing weekend and I can not wait to be back!! I felt so inspired by the beautiful shades of mint , cream and light blue sky mixed with stunning architecture and lovely shops around the city. I hope you enjoyed this glimpse of my weekend in Antwerp. Thank you for reading!
